ZipLip Brings "Recipient-Focus" to Email Security
Recipient, Not Sender, Determines Adoption Success
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – November 6, 2003
ZipLip, Inc., a leading provider of enterprise email management software for security and archival, announces a secure email solutions approach which focuses on recipients' needs. Traditional secure email solutions by vendors have focused on the sender's needs, which may lead to inadequate adoption if the recipients do not find it appealing.
Recipient-Focused Secure Email
"We are taking a different approach to securing mail," said Kon Leong, CEO of ZipLip Inc. "If the email recipient finds the solution does not meet his preferences, he may simply refuse to use the solution being forced on him. More alarming is the fact that, for compliance reasons, many secure email solutions geared toward senders do not even meet compliance requirements for the recipients. Understandably, we have heard of cases where recipients have been explicitly prohibited from participating in certain vendor solutions."
Examples of such compliance problems would be cases where recipients may download sensitive information via HTTP to their PC hard drive, while their email in-box shows no such content. To compile a complete record would require scouring every PC hard drive for sensitive files. Another case may involve recipients using keys residing outside their firewall, which then poses a problem for later decryption, especially if the data is to be retained for many years and the software or service is no longer supported.
Continues Leong: "The better approach is the recipient-focused approach, which matches the solution to every recipient, essentially giving the power of choice to the recipient. Since recipients typically comprise a diverse group, ranging from consumers to very security-sensitive corporations, the challenge is to provide a wide range of secure email choices within a single solution and make it transparently easy to use. ZipLip's Secure Email Gateway answers this need."
The ZipLip Secure Email Gateway provides all known forms of secure email delivery on a single platform. This can not only accommodate the needs of the sending corporation, but also allows recipients to choose the mode and security level they need. For example, recipients may choose among these options:
- Choice of authentication level (choosing own password, presenting certificates, etc.)
- Choice of delivery method (choosing among all known delivery methodologies)
- Choice of security level (passwords, tokens, PKI certificates, etc.)
- Choice of delivery capabilities (delivery of very large files, wireless delivery, etc.)
- Choice of auditing (tracking sending and receipt, content delivery to Inbox, etc.)
- Additional choices, including secure reply, secure sending, etc.
The ZipLip Secure Email Gateway enables all the above options, while offering a single point of control, easy administration, and requiring no client software downloads.
"Increasing adoption of ZipLip's solutions by corporate leaders such as Walgreens, ADP, Delta Dental, Hancock, SI International, and many others, proves that the success of a secure email solution depends more on a recipient-focus, than a sender-focus" says Leong.
The ZipLip Secure Email Gateway is available in a software "appliance" configuration, starting at $15,000, and can scale to enterprise clustered configurations, handling hundreds of thousands of accounts.
